About the Project
The reimagined Hyatt Regency Ontario is being transformed into a welcoming destination for travelers, families, and the surrounding community. At the heart of the hotel lobby, Carlyn Ray Designs is creating Luminous Journey, a custom suspended glass installation inspired by the beauty, grace, and resilience of the monarch butterfly.
Composed of more than 400 handcrafted glass elements, the sculpture captures a sense of movement and migration as butterflies journey through the space. Each butterfly represents transformation, hope, and the potential we each carry to bring beauty and light into the world.
As part of her artistic process, Carlyn Ray opened the creation of Luminous Journey to two groups in the Inland Empire community, inviting children, families, and community members to create glass butterflies that will become part of the finished installation. Each carries the colors, touch, and story of its maker into the larger work, a reminder that individual acts of creativity, hope, and love can become extraordinary when joined together.
From the community tables in Rancho Cucamonga to the Carlyn Ray Designs studio in Dallas, each element is being carefully fired, formed, and finished before coming together in its permanent home at the Hyatt Regency Ontario.
