Lighting

Glass chandeliers use light and form to elevate a space into something extraordinary. See how glassicles, clouds, and custom designs transform spaces in dramatic ways.

The Process

Consultation and Planning

The first step is knowing the space. Plans, site visits, and/or photos are needed to make the art feel a part of the space. Carlyn and her team will provide sketches or renderings of ideas. Understanding the overall budget or looking at the perfect design will drive possibilities. With the design, a color palette and materials will be suggested and approved to make sure all visual elements are fully understood. All of these details will be captured in a contract.

Glassblowing and Assembly

From the sketches and renderings, Carlyn and the team will design the metal and glass to blend together and support one another. If lighting is involved, all interfaces are understood and calibrations created for the full assembly to fit together. Carlyn and her team create the glass in the specific finish and color per contract and will either invite you in for a color approval or send you photos with an update. With your approval, the team will continue to assemble all the metal, glass, and electrical components. Depending on the scale, a full mock-up may be approved in the studio before it is installed at your site.

Installation and Lighting

The pre-installation is normally done all in the studio to create a diagram template to follow, or a detailed guide is provided to meet specification requirements (lengths/ceiling placements). All parts are QC’d prior to going out to the site and the installation is just a step-by-step process of assembling the individual parts together. Electrical can be done simultaneously or before and after the installation depending on the scope of the project. The celebration begins once all is illuminated and glowing!

The Materials

Glass

Glass holds so many properties, and the capabilities of the material seem endless. When solid, it is robust and has an optical brilliance. Blown out, it looks weightless and cloudlike. Light reacts to the surface and thickness of glass, and we enjoy playing with that in our sculptures. We can create glass in a realm of different colors ranging from transparent to opaque. The mix between metal and glass, glass and light, and the sculpture and the environment is very important to achieve the desired effect. Glass has a magical way of mirroring, reflecting, and transmitting light and energy into space.

Lighting

Lighting can transform a piece. Usually, when a piece is unlit, it looks subtle and elegant, but when lit it becomes brilliant and majestic. Lighting controls the intensity of the piece and, with various colors, the feeling of the piece. Depending on the design, we use a variety of different lighting techniques and are always updating our products as newer items come on the market. All of our lighting products are LEDs and we fabricate our designs so that when a light goes out, someone besides ourselves is able to change out the parts.

Metal

To structurally hold or suspend our glass, we typically use metal. Metal has a similar feeling to glass in the process of creation, made from raw materials and heated in order to form and manipulate. We can control the tooling and fasteners to attach the metal to structurally and hold the glass safely and stylishly. Metal has a lot of different finishes we can match to the space, and we have different metalworkers we collaborate with depending on the project.
